In the second installment of Agile’s Trader Talk webinar series, the Agile team hosts discussions on key market dynamics with traders on the front lines of the MBS market.
In this webinar, Phil Kukafka of Towne Mortgage, Ryan Ferderer of Multi-Bank Securities, and Andrew Rhodes of MCT will give an overview of MBS pooling, discuss the current market, share strategies for efficiently pooling and selling mortgage-backed securities, as well as the process for MBS pooling using Agile’s technology.
Mr. Rhodes began his career with MCT in 2005 as the company’s first dedicated loan sale specialist. He initially created investor specific models to accurately produce market based mandatory pricing for all pricing aspects in MCT including rate sheet generation, best executions, and fair market valuations.
During the years following his hire, his role was redefined to include client pipeline risk management. Over the years he was able to grow with the company gaining skills and experience in multiple fields in secondary. He was soon after named as SVP of Trading.
Phillip Kukafka is the Chief Capital Markets Officer for Towne Mortgage and a member of its Executive Committee. Before working with Towne, Phillip worked for The Money Source (TMS). While at TMS, he was involved in all aspects of the company including capital markets, sales, securitization, MSR valuation and sales, operations, implementing risk management procedures, hedging strategies, and loan selling and purchasing. He was an integral part of increasing the business from $20 million per month to $500 million per month.
Prior to working at TMS, he ran the Capital Markets Team at Deutsche Bank, the MortgageIT division, selling over $150 billion in mortgage loans to various Wall Street banks and investors. He was also a member of the Executive and PR Teams that assisted in taking MortgageIT public. Phillip is a CPA and has worked at various public accounting firms and on Wall Street. He studied Accounting at Fredonia State University.
In his free time, Phillip, an “equal opportunity sportsman”, enjoys skiing, mountain biking, roller hockey, and golf.
Ryan began his career in the fixed-income securities industry in 2006 at Countrywide Securities Corporation (CSC). He has held a variety of positions over the years, including trading assistant at CSC, vice president at U.S. Bank and vice president of trading at Jefferies LLC. Ryan has managed a multi-billion dollar mortgage position which included the trading of specified mortgage-backed pools and TBAs. He has dealt with large institutional customers, hedge funds and the Federal Reserve in their purchase of mortgages for Quantitative Easing Policy.
Ryan graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead with a bachelor’s degree in business administration (emphasis: finance). He holds his General Securities Representative (Series 7) and Uniform Securities Agent State Law Representative (Series 63) licenses.
